IoT router selection: USB, pocket and 4G CPE

Choose hardware by its role: a USB-powered connection, a portable hotspot or wired broadband with cellular backup. The reference profiles below come from product briefs supplied for project evaluation. Confirm the exact model, regional bands, firmware and commercial terms before ordering.

MQ003

USB-powered 4G connectivity

For a compact connection where a suitable USB power source is available.

Specification reference
USB-powered, without a built-in battery; 1 USIM slot; up to 8 connected devices; listed weight 25 g.
Confirm before ordering
Confirm the destination bands, USB power requirements and access method for the intended devices. Do not assume this model has the 10-device capacity listed for MQ006.

MQ006

Portable 4G hotspot

For teams that need a battery-powered connection between temporary work locations.

Specification reference
2 USIM slots; up to 10 connected devices; listed battery 2100 mAh; listed weight including battery 119 g.
Confirm before ordering
Two SIM slots do not establish simultaneous active connections or automatic switching. Confirm those functions, runtime under your workload and battery shipping requirements for the selected variant.

MQ008

Wired broadband with 4G backup

For fixed sites that need a wired primary connection and a cellular fallback path.

Specification reference
Automatic, 4G-only and wired-only modes; in 4G mode the WAN port can function as LAN; DHCP, static IP and PPPoE configuration; local web management.
Confirm before ordering
Confirm the market-specific LTE bands and test failover and recovery with the actual POS, VPN or business application. Automatic switching is not a promise of uninterrupted application sessions.

5G CPE is a different network design

The supplied 5G CPE brief describes a cellular primary uplink, four gigabit LAN ports and no WAN port. Do not treat it as the MQ008 wired-failover design. Request the exact model and regional band set first; the brief does not identify a model number. Listed radio peak rates are not guaranteed application throughput.

Confirm hardware and connectivity separately

Ask the quote to identify the hardware model, SIM or profile, allowance validity, activation, CMP access, delivery and support terms. A device specification does not establish which data plan or management functions are included. The illustrations elsewhere on this site are not photographs of these models.

Frequently asked questions

Does every router support wired failover?

No. The MQ008 brief describes wired-primary failover. The supplied 5G CPE profile has a cellular uplink and no WAN port. Confirm the exact model and firmware.

Are data plans included in the hardware reference?

No inclusion is established by this page. Confirm the SIM or eSIM arrangement, allowance, validity and any management charges in the project quote.
